Our Core Beliefs

Although we respect the individuality of each person's spiritual journey of growth in knowledge and understanding, the following are generally recognized to represent core beliefs common to Christianity as we understand and practice it. You won't find anything in this list that is strange or out of line with the beliefs of most Christians. And although our beliefs extend beyond what we've provided here, we offer these not to explain how we are distinct from everybody around us, but to testify that we have a great deal in common with all those who claim Jesus as Lord and who take the Bible seriously.

  • We believe the Bible to express the inspired Word of God, the complete revelation of God's will for humankind, and the divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life.
  • We believe in one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  • We believe that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. He died on the cross, a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, where he is at the right hand of the Majesty on High. He now is our High Priest and Advocate.
  • We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and to indwell and empower the believer for godly living and service.
  • We believe that humans were created in the image of God but fell into sin and are therefore lost, and only through regeneration by the Holy Spirit through the blood of Christ can salvation and spiritual life be obtained.
  • We believe that the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ provide the ground for justification and salvation for all who believe, and that the path to new birth is found through receiving Jesus Christ through faith, repentance, and baptism to receive forgiveness of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit.
  • We believe that the church is composed of all such persons who penitently trust in Jesus Christ and have been baptized, thus united together in the Body of Christ, the church, of which he is the Head.
  • We believe that Jesus is the Lord and the Head of the Church and that every local church has the right under Christ to decide and govern its own affairs.
  • We believe in the personal return of our Lord Jesus Christ and that this “blessed hope” has a vital bearing on the personal life and service of the believer.
  • We believe in the bodily resurrection of the believer to everlasting blessedness and joy with the Lord and of the unbeliever to judgment and eternal destruction.
